About wetlands

A wetland is an area of land whose soil is satu- rated with moisture either permanently or seasonally.

Overview of the implemented activities

HYDROLOGY

In collaboration with project partners Slovenia forest service and The Institute for water of the republic of Slovenia we determined locations where maintenance work regarding hydrology should take place. We agreed on the construction of two culverts on the forest road where gravel is being washed from the road. These two culverts will be accompanied by a gravel-catcher which will be emptied during the regular maintenance work on the forest road.
In the core area of the marsh (“headwaters”), distributor for high- and low-waters will be placed. Low waters will flow through the dispersion object and feed the slope north-east of current water ditch. High waters will still feed the same ditch. We prepared the documentation for hydrological maintenance works.

OVERGROWTH REMOVAL

Majority of overgrowth was removed. Removal of overgrowth is still going on on a smaller area besides the forest road (the removal is to be finished in the summer 2014).

PUBLIC AWARENESS

We communicated a lot with the land owner, the municipality and other stakeholders in this area. We organized volunteer actions, field excursions with Slovenj Gradec Highschool and field excursion with IRSNC employees.
We prepared content for info boards and eventualy we put them up right by the owner's house.
